2021: Share of Female Professors a Third for the First Time

For decades, more women than men have been studying at the University of Vienna. About half of the doctorates are awarded to women. Nevertheless, the share of women decreases along the hierarchical levels of the scientific career up to professorships – the so-called leaky pipeline. 2021 is the first year that the share of female professors across all disciplines at the University of Vienna is at a third of all professors. Gender parity has not been achieved yet across all levels of the academic career, but it has advanced considerably in the last years. Equality is established as a part of the institution University.
