1921: First Female Double-Doctorate

Marianne Beth starts studying Near Eastern Studies in 1908, because the Faculty of Law does not accept women yet. She receives her doctorate in Near Eastern Studies in 1912. After it becomes possible for women to study law in 1919, she enrols immediately and finishes her second doctorate in 1921. This makes her the first woman in Austria who earns two doctorates. From 1928 on, she is the first female registered lawyer in Vienna.
