1921: First Female Associate Professor

Elise Richter becomes the first female associate professor in Austria. This associate professorship (at the time: extra-ordinary professorship) includes a lectureship for Romance linguistics, literature and phonetics. In 1922, she founds the “Association of Academic Women Austria” and supports other women in academia. She never receives a full professorship. A final request on the occasion of her 70th birthday is denied by the education ministry in 1935.
