2009: The Muse Has Had It!

For more than 120 years, the Kastalia statue and the memorial plaque for Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach are the only women that can be seen next to the 153 busts of men in the arcaded courtyard of the University of Vienna. This is criticised more and more. In 2009, artist Iris Andraschek takes up the criticism and creates a new piece of memory culture at the University of Vienna with the intervention “The Muse Has Had It!”. The long shadow of Kastalia who stood up raises its fist fiercely and visibly takes up space in the arcaded courtyard. With this, the missing women get a space in the arcarded courtyard and the university history.
