1982: More Female than Male Students for the First Time

The open access to universities that Hertha Firnberg accomplished, quickly raises the number of students. In 1982, more women than men study at the University of Vienna for the first time since the Second World War, although differences between disciplines are substantial. While the overrepresentation of women during the Second World War was an exception, it is a lasting phenomenon from 1982 on. Differences between disciplines remain, though. The overrepresentation of women among students initially has very little effect on the share of women among the scientific staff.
