1878: First Official Steps to make it possible for women to study

From 1878 on, women are allowed to take the Maturity Exam, but that does not give them the right to study at university. According to an executive order from the Ministry of Culture and Education, individual women may become guest students in lectures at the university in “exceptional cases”. Getting this permission requires not only “special circumstances”, but also the approval of lecturer, faculty and ministry. It is not possible to get a degree this way.
