2006: Start of the Master's Degree Gender Studies

In 2004 already, the University of Vienna is the university with the most courses on the topic of gender studies in Europe – a result that is tied to the achievements of the “Inter-University Coordination Bureau for Women’s Research and Women’s Studies Vienna”. The master’s degree Gender studies is initiated in 2006. It is the first study programme in gender studies in Austria. In 2010, the Gender Studies professorship follows. In 2021, Sabine Grenz is the professor for Gender Studies. Around 500 students are enrolled in the Gender Studies master today. The University of Vienna offers around 200 courses on gender topics per semester in different disciplines.
