2000: First Female Vice-Rector
The medical doctor Gabriele Moser becomes the first female vice-rector of the University of Vienna in 2000. She remains in office until 2003 and is responsible for human resources and the advancement of women. She joins the Medical University of Vienna in 2004 when it separates from the University of Vienna where it used to be the Faculty for Medicine. Unitl 2021, there have been four more female vice-rectors at the University of Vienna. In 2021, the vice-rectorate is gender-balanced with two men and two women. The University of Vienna has not had a female rector yet.
